Inappropriate Content

We have always tried to weed out inappropriate content at Mister Poll. Despite our efforts, more and more questionable polls and messages have been creeping in. Mostly, it’s the messages. There are just too many postings for us to keep up with them all ourselves. We do sometimes get helpful emails from you, pointing out a message or poll that really needs to be removed. Thank you for that. We jump on those as quickly as we can.

Lately though, it’s just not enough. We’ve been quite alarmed at some of the things we’ve found recently. We’ve seen examples of people encouraging child abuse and molestation, trading child pornography, and enticing under-aged kids to email privately in order to trade sexual stories and/or pictures.

This has to stop.

We simply will not stand by and allow Mister Poll to become a home for online predators and other dangerous deviants. Healthy discussions about consensual adult sex is one thing, but these have gone far beyond that. I know this will be an ongoing battle, but we’re making some changes that I think will help.

The first step we’ve taken is to make it much easier for you to notify us about any inappropriate content that you find. Every poll and every message now has a Flag link. Whenever you see something that you feel should be removed, please click this link. It will automatically notify us of the content, so we can review it for removal.

Flag Sample

We have a few more changes in the works as well, but I think this first one is the most important. The more people we have looking out for dangerous situations, the more effective we will be in fighting them. If you have other suggestions about how to clean things up, please do let us know.

Thank you!

Ummmm… Ok… but what about Kameleon? HE was fired out of mister poll as soon as this “flag” thing came about. He never wrote anything wrong on mister poll. So why did you delete him? None of his polls exist anymore. I left a message in the public message forum regarding this. LOOK FOR IT AND REPLY TO IT!

    Peace, blackninja133

Nobody was “fired”. Whatever issues your friend is having are unrelated to the new flag feature. I’ve responded to your post in the forum.

  3. 3 Kameleon February 13, 2008 at 7:57 pm

blackninja133 had misread my e-mail to him! I wrote to him that I left a post in a poll, then my computer kinda crashed. And I wanted to go back into Mr. Poll, and I had a “error in loading” message! Five attempts! It was MY INTERNET SERVER! So I got through using another brouser.
I appologize for him. A mis-understanding! I don’t know where he got the idea I was “fired” from Mr. Poll. And my polls DO exist!
Great feature, Mr. Poll! We all HAVE to be careful leaving e-mail addresses!!! Or NOT at all!!!

Sorry I was very drunk! 🙂

  5. 5 Kameleon February 15, 2008 at 8:32 pm

    YOU drink?

    Thank you!
Glad to see you’re trying to do something about it

people post really sick messages encouraging child porn and abuse, even though sexual chat between adults is ok

this spam even occurs in polls that have nothing to do with sex or anything; somebody posted a message in my supreme court poll asking for 13 year olds for naked pictures–I promptly deleted it.

In fact, these sickos are probably what get misterpoll in so much trouble [eg. stop badware, myspace] and other sites calling Mister Poll a “dangerous” site.

Many of the abusive posters ask for kids’ email or give theirs out on the message board. [even non-abusive posters ask for email too] A private-message feature would allow members to get in touch with each other without posting their email in a public forum vulnerable to spam and child porn. Ideally the PM’s would go straight to their email, so they will never see your email.

Don’t you think this system is too easily abusable? You will ruin the site the other way around, by allowing anyone to flag anything, anytime!

  8. 8 misterpoll February 26, 2008 at 8:05 pm

Flagging an item does not by itself cause the item to be removed. It only alerts us that we should review it and make our own determination about whether it is inappropriate. We do that now on a regular basis, but the flagging system will hopefully make it easier to find the content that needs to go. We will still make the final judgment ourselves though, not the person flagging.

It seems that the flagging system isn’t stringent enough. I made a poll on what people’s opinions of various Middle Eastern countries are (positive or negative), with NO controversial language whatsoever, and someone flagged it almost immediately after it was released. There should be a system where a given number of people need to individually flag a poll in order for it to be considered publicly “flagged”.

Whenever i try to signonline misterpoll it says “Permission Denied.” :[

Well, I just hope no adult themed polls are removed, so long as it remains adults only. That seems fair. I understand this would technically be considered private property, so “freedom of expression” doesn’t apply here. But I’d prefer that some of the “other than regular” sexual practice and messages remain.

Again, so long as it is adults only. I would hate to see this wonderful site end up on a slippery slope and become less than fun.

I hate to bother you again, but it is necessary. In response to my request, you recently deleted a bunch pof messages/threads by a person who was using the name “girlhater”. He is now back doing the same thing, using the mane “hatinggirls”. I have flagged most of the post, all of which are apparently posted today [4-3-08] and they are in “response” to stuff I posted MANY days ago. I have avoided posting anything new because I know he will jump right in and ruin the thread. Notice that nobody else is osting anything new either, and I believe it is due to their knowledge that he will just jump right in and ruin their message threads too.

It seems like the only way for you to stop this guy from totally continuing to destroy this boad is to ban him completely, and not permit his computer I.D. number from posting. If you do not do this, this board is finished.

    Thank you.

I hate to bother you again, but today [4/4/08] this person has continued to rave on by adding comments to messages that only he has himself responded to for many days, since the rest of us know that to post anything intelligent is useless because he will quickly bury it with his baffling tirades.

If all you can do or will do is to delete those entire threads that this person ruins, then that person is winning……he/she is continuing to ruin this board and run people off. Please ban this person’s IP address or addresses if you can.

Once again, thank you for your attention to this matter.

  14. 14 meangirl April 4, 2008 at 10:14 pm

At the risk of myself being accused of leaving multiple messages, would it not be best just to leave messages/threads intact that he/she disrupts, and just delete only his/her posts? That may be time-consuming for you, but it would make you and the message board the winner, and him/her the loser that he/she is.

    Thank you.

  15. 15 misterpoll April 5, 2008 at 7:34 pm

meangirl: When we remove an account, it does only directly delete the messages and threads that person created. In the case of a thread though, other messages in the removed thread would also disappear, since the thread itself is removed. Only threads created by that user would be deleted, though.

I mistakenly clicked the flag button in a poll tittled “Ticketed Passengers Only at Airports.” Can you leave that poll there?

  17. 17 misterpoll May 14, 2008 at 7:50 am

Polls won’t be removed simply because somebody flagged them. We review them ourselves, and will only remove polls that are actually inappropriate. Clearly the “Ticketed Passengers Only” poll is fine.

i am sorry that i just made a mistake then

I am making a complaint against user Darkside47 for abusive namecalling that is getting past your automatic filters. He uses names such as Dumb as-s, retard, idiot, schmuck, nit-wit, moron etc., especially against me. He or someone attached to his polls hacked my messages and changed content somehow. I seem to have repaired most of it, but this should not be possible. Someone on your reviewing board?

Misterpoll, There is a user by the name of Billy5 who is on the poll boys humiliated by girls and he has made some offensive comments and remarks to another user that were unprovoked uncalled for and totally and utterly and completely unnecessary!!!! Please take him off and delete him and remove him from your website and his account even if he does come back and return with another account and user name made and created!!!! His comments and remarks are insulting, degrading, demeaning, belittling and disrespectful to say the least as well as and also disturbing, upsetting and distressing and that’s putting it mildly!!!! It has nothing to do with boys humiliated by girls whatsoever and absolutely no connection with it!!!!

What’s up with all the messages? When I try to access the messages in every single poll all it says is ERROR….PLEASE TRY BACK IN A FEW MINUTES. It’s been like that for two days now. The messages never show up. What’s the problem? I’m a long time user of Misterpoll, but if the messages are gone then so am I. The polls just by themselves would be very boring, it’s the discussions and stories posted by the people that make it fun and interesting. Without the messages I’m gone. I’m sure a huge percentage of users feel the same way.
